MISTI Strengthens Technical Capacity of Private Water Operators to Enhance Services

Phnom penh: The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) is continuing its nationwide effort to strengthen the capacity of private water operators (PWOs) through a series of technical training sessions on the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this training provides fundamental knowledge on the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems, focusing on technical performance, demonstrates how to reduce production and distribution costs for clean water, and strengthens operators’ ability to ensure technical compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), all of which are key elements supporting a safe, quality, sustainable, and affordable water supply for consumers.

More than 300 participants representing PWOs from 9 provinces and capital, including Phnom Penh, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Kandal, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, and Kampong Cham participated in 3 training sessions. The sessions covered various critical aspects such as types of water treatment systems including conventional, compact, and UF membrane treatment. They also focused on water treatment operation, covering the operation and maintenance of pumping systems, water treatment systems, tap distribution, and connection.

Additionally, the training sessions included information on national water quality standards, emphasizing water sampling and storing, as well as daily, quarterly, and yearly parameter measurements. Participants also learned about mechanical and electrical components, which involved knowledge about pumping stations, distribution stations, and monitoring cabinets.
