Phnom penh: H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), engaged with a delegation from the Counter Counterfeit Committee, headed by H.E. Nov Leakhena, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Cambodian Counter Counterfeit Committee.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Nov Leakhena provided insights into the committee’s evolving strategy, focusing on shifting from strict enforcement measures to educational initiatives and supporting manufacturers. He sought collaboration with MISTI, particularly in sharing data relevant to local production.
Minister Vanndy expressed support for this strategic realignment, highlighting its consistency with MISTI’s objectives. He stressed the importance of consumer protection, assistance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and enhanced patent enforcement to foster national innovation. Vanndy advocated for a holistic governmental approach to business processes, urging collaboration with various ministries and institutions to harmonize national interests with private-sector expansion.
Furthermore, the Minister underscored the advancements in MISTI’s national laboratory, which is now equipped to meet the Committee’s testing requirements. He also spotlighted the recent inauguration of a food processing center and ongoing standard-development initiatives aimed at ensuring product quality and safety.
