KOTA KINABALU, The Ministry of National Unity will appoint all alumni of student volunteer missions organised by Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) as unity agents. Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said that from this group, 50 would be selected as unity ambassadors after going through several evaluation phases. 'Two unity icons will also be chosen each year starting next year, and the announcement will be made during the launching of Unity Week Celebration,' he said in statement today. Earlier, Aaron closed the Ini Warisan Kita: Misi Sukarelawan Siswa ke Sabah programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here. A total 100 volunteers from 56 higher education institutions (IPT) nationwide participated in volunteer activities across six districts in Sabah under the programme. He added that a total of 229 volunteer projects were carried out, benefiting approximately 24,000 local residents. Since its establishment in 2012 up until 2023, the student volunteer foundation under the Ministry of National Unity, has produced 1,797 volunteer leaders and conducted 60 high-impact volunteer missions, as well as over 8,000 community-based projects.
