Ministry and Partners Collaborate on National Plan Against Early Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy

Phnom Penh: A consultation workshop focusing on the initial draft of the National Action Plan to Prevent Child Early Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy was hosted by the Legal Protection Department of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. This initiative received financial backing from Plan International Cambodia and technical assistance from UNICEF Cambodia and UNFPA Cambodia.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the workshop convened in Phnom Penh this morning, led by H.E. Ms. Hou Sameth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. It saw the participation of approximately 110 deputy governors, directors of Women’s Affairs Departments from across the 25 provinces and the capital, representatives from civil society organisations, and youth groups.

The primary objective of the workshop was to gather input from various ministries, institutions, civil society organisations, and practitioners at the national level. Discussions focused on fostering participation and cooperation with relevant partners to effectively implement the National Action Plan aimed at preventing child early marriage and teenage pregnancy.

The event also sought recommendations to refine the National Action Plan. Addressing this issue is crucial as it adversely affects the health of women and girls, contributing to maternal mortality among adolescents.
