A Seoul court sentenced a man to 25 years in prison Friday for strangling a female internet broadcaster to death at her home earlier this year, saying he has shown no repentance for the crime.

The 44-year-old man, surnamed Kim, was indicted on charges of killing the victim and stealing money from her studio apartment in Seoul’s northern district of Eunpyeong on March 11. It was not clear why he killed the broadcaster, commonly known as a BJ.

The Seoul Western District Court said Kim could have killed the woman while trying to steal her valuables or to get back gifts he had given her, but it is clear that he strangled her to death and the victim ended her life in extreme pain.

“There are no signs whatsoever that he is repenting for his action and feeling remorseful to the bereaved family,” the court said, adding that he has a criminal record of a similar killing and two cases of conviction for violence.

“Stern punishment is inevitable,” it said.
