A man in his 70s has been put under emergency arrest on charges of stabbing a street cleaner in her 60s to death in central Seoul early Friday, police said. The suspect allegedly stabbed the woman, who was doing her cleaning duty at the time, at an underpass near Sungnyemun Gate at 5:10 a.m., eventually leading to her death. Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report that someone was lying down bleeding. The victim was taken to a hospital but pronounced dead about an hour after the attack. Police checked surveillance cameras nearby and arrested the suspect near Seoul Station around 8:50 a.m. The man, believed to be homeless, reportedly had a dispute with the woman before killing her. Police plan to seek an arrest warrant for him after questioning his motives and request the National Forensic Service to conduct an autopsy on the victim. The man tested negative in a brief reagent test and alcohol test, officials said. Source: Yonhap News Agency
