KUALA LUMPUR, The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has disbursed over RM16 million in Aidilfitri aid to asnaf in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan in an effort to bring joy to this group during the festive season. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said that before Syawal, 32,250 asnaf in the three federal territories received RM500 each. 'Today, MAIWP distributed additional contributions to the needy and their children through the Rahmah Syawal MAIWP: Jalinan Aidilfitri programme, totalling RM150,000. 'We hope that this assistance will enable them to celebrate Syawal with joy. And as we all know, other forms of support such as medical and monthly assistance are ongoing,' he told reporters here today. MAIWP, in a statement, said that during the event, 600 asnaf comprising 400 adults received a contribution of RM350 each, consisting of RM200 in cash and RM150 in gifts, while 200 children received RM50 each. At the same event, Mohd Na'im said that MAIWP has launched the Mobile Lab Internet 2 project in collaboration with the Dana Kita welfare organisation. This project is a continuation of the Mobile Lab Internet 1, which began operations in 2021. 'MAIWP has allocated RM1.2 million to ensure the success of the Mobile Lab Internet 2 project, with the aim to empower asnaf children to break free from the cycle of poverty and hopefully alleviate the burden on their parents,' he said, adding that the project is expected to benefit about 2,000 children.
