KUALA LUMPUR, The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) Ziarah Asnaf Programme Series 6/2024 today visited a couple and their three children who live in a dilapidated hut near the Seri Semarak People Housing Project (PPR) here.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, who led the entourage, said Mohd Khairul Azman Jamaludin, 30, and his wife Siti Nur Fazirah Juhaimi, 23, and their children aged five, three and one have been residing in the hut since last month.

‘They previously rented a room for RM400 a month from a friend, but the friend failed to pay the landlord, resulting in them being asked to leave.

‘I was informed that before moving to this hut, they stayed temporarily with family and in budget hotels,’ said Mohd Na’im, who was accompanied by MAIWP Zakat Collection Centre chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Hakim Amir Osman at the programme.

He said MAIWP has approved financial assistance of RM500 and food aid of RM300 per month t
o ease the burden of Mohd Khairul Azman, who runs a burger stall to make ends meet.

Mohd Na’im added that the family would be housed in a nearby budget hotel for the time being while MAIWP arranges for a rental home, with monthly payments borne by MAIWP.

‘We will also enrol Mohd Khairul Azman in the MAIWP entrepreneur business scheme, which will hopefully help him improve his skills,’ he said.

He also expressed appreciation to zakat payers in the Federal Territories as their contributions enabled MAIWP to support those in need.

During the programme, Mohd Na’im also met with two other recipients in the Setapak Jaya area, namely senior citizen Abd Razak Rejab, 65, and Eza Farriz Zaini, 38, a person with disabilities who also has a disabled child, Adam Haikal Eza Farriz, 19.
