The National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) aims to fuel the spirit of patriotism ahead of National Day (Aug 31) with a three-day Merdeka Tour convoy and Flying the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) through three states namely Kelantan, Perak and Kedah..
Kelantan LKTN chairman Datuk Wan Abd Rahim Abdullah said the programme, in collaboration with LKTN and the Information Department (JaPen), involved 14 LKTN vehicles including a bus carrying 40 participants.
"The three-day Merdeka Tour Convoy, beginning in Perak and will end in Kedah, with stopovers at various checkpoints to instilling the spirit of patriotism and nationalism in the community," he told reporters after launching the Fly the Jalur Gemilang and LKTN Merdeka Tour at the Kelantan LKTN office here today.
"The Fly the Jalur Gemilang and Merdeka Tour programme, involving a distance of 400 kilometres, is being held to enliven the National Day celebrations."
Kelantan LKTN director-general Idris Mohd Salleh also attended the event.
Wan Abd Rahim said the programme can indirectly foster the spirit of unity irrespective of religious background, race, status or rank.
Elaborating further, he said LKTN will hold various activities throughout the three-day convoy programme and these included kenaf talks, kenaf entrepreneur courses, briefings on the implementation of tobacco licencing and tobacco production, an exhibition as well as Rahmah Sales programme.
"These efforts will help to strengthen ties between LKTN and the local community among the kenaf and tobacco industry players, in addition to all parties being able to get to know LKTN more closely," he said.
At the same time, he also said LKTN hopes to communicate directly with industry players and target groups and it will include getting suggestions for improving the kenaf industry policy as well as strengthening the organisation.
"The kenaf industry has a big potential to be developed into one of the national economic resoures, and we will continue to implement initiatives to empower this industry to be competitive and to also benefit the people and country," he added.
