IPOH, Prolonged heavy rain for more than two hours caused severe damage to a restaurant and a fish landing jetty in Bagan Sungai Burung, Bagan Datuk, early this morning. Bagan Datuk District Civil Defense Force (APM) officer, Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi, said that based on information received, there were strong winds, rain, and thunderstorms in the area at 4 am. He said a team of APM personnel was sent to the scene to monitor the situation and check the water level after a report was received around 9.45 am. 'A restaurant and a fish landing jetty suffered severe damage due to large waves that hit the coast. 'No casualties were reported, however. And there is no need to open a temporary evacuation centre as the water level has receded,' he said when contacted today. Mohd Fazly also informed that a high tide is expected from Sept 16 to 23 with the highest sea level at 3.5 metres. 'Small boats are advised not to go to sea and members of the public living along the coast should be alert to the current unpre dictable weather conditions. Obtain information through the mass media or any reliable medium and contact the emergency hotline for assistance if a disaster occurs,' he said. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
