Labuan's National Day celebration will be held on a modest scale this year and will retain several key programmes, Labuan Information Department Director Azman Sipan said. The celebration, which will commence at the Financial Park Complex, will be officially launched by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa and include programmes such as the Merdeka Convoy, with almost 50 vehicles. 'The convoy will be flagged off by Dr Zaliha, symbolising unity and patriotism as the vehicles parade through Labuan,' he said to Bernama today after the Merdeka Celebration preparation committee meeting at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan today. Other programmes include an exhibition by government agencies, a poetry recital competition where participants will express their love for the country, and National Day costume contest showcasing traditional and contemporary attire representing Malaysia's cultural diversity. Azman said these events aim to foster a sense of national pride and unity among the residents of Labuan, and are part of the broader National Day festivities across Malaysia. He added that government agencies and private firms are encouraged to display national flags at their premises in celebration of National Month in August. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
