Korean Air Co., South Korea's leading air carrier, on Thursday unveiled the company's latest in-flight safety video featuring computer-generated virtual human characters. Produced by Metaverse Entertainment Inc., a unit of South Korean game company Netmarble F and C Inc., the 5 minute-long video features virtual character Rina and virtual K-pop girl group Mave. The video was shared on the company's YouTube channel. In the video, Rina offers safety instructions in a flight attendant uniform while Mave's members assume the role of passengers. The company began playing the video on all flights from Thursday. Korean Air said it marked the first time for a hyperreal virtual human character to be featured in an airline in-flight safety video. The company is the latest in a growing list of South Korean businesses, including SK Telecom Co. and Shinhan Life Insurance Co., that have adopted virtual characters for promotional or operational use. A Korean Air representative said the video will serve as "a great exa mple of the synergy created between the aviation industry and digital technology," while adding, "We intend to change perceptions of in-flight safety videos with these new ideas, and make them more relatable and engaging for passengers."
