King Hails Environment Ministry, Advises Continuous Efforts to Beat Plastic Pollution

Phnom Penh: His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni appreciates the Ministry of Environment's endeavour to promote a clean and green environment, advising the ministry to keep up, particularly in beating plastic pollution. The Cambodian King made the highlight in a royal address when presiding over an official event at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh to mark the National Environment Day and World Environment Day on June 5.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, living with respect for nature, not destroying it, and using resources sustainably is an obligation that must be passed on from one generation to another, said His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. Minister of Environment H.E. Dr. Eang Sophallet wholeheartedly accepted the royal advice and reaffirmed his commitment to bring it to life to stop plastic pollution from harming not only the environment but also the health of Cambodian people.

The minister stated that the ministry is working hard to transform 206 dumpsites across the country into better-controlled landfills. Meanwhile, it has launched regional tree nurseries to produce seedlings for free distribution to citizens, aiming to increase forest cover and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
