KEMAS TO RAISE ‘HARI POTENSI’ TOURNAMENT FLAG ON MOUNT KINABALU

The Department of Community Development (KEMAS) will raise its ‘Hari Potensi’ tournament flag atop Mount Kinabalu on Oct 1 for promotion and publicity purposes.

In a statement today, KEMAS said the expedition will be led by Selangor KEMAS director Mohd Ali Hanafiah Abu Hassan, and will comprise 10 staff members who will leave from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Friday before embarking on their climb the next day, with the group expecting to reach the summit of Mount Kinabalu on Sunday.

“Apart from recreational activities that will test both their physical and mental strength, this expedition is to help the Selangor KEMAS’ mission to achieve success in the eyes of the world with this symbolic act of flying the KEMAS flag on the mountain's summit,” said the statement.

There was a symbolic handover ceremony of the KEMAS ‘Hari Potensi’ flag by KEMAS director-general Datuk Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi.

Meanwhile, KEMAS will organise the national-level KEMAS ‘Hari Potensi” from Nov 3 to 5 at Dataran Kemerdekaan in Shah Alam, Selangor.

According to KEMAS, the programme will bring together nearly 800 children from KEMAS Tabika (Taman Bimbingan Kanak-Kanak or kindergarten) nationwide to showcase the children’s ability to compete in talent competitions such as 'Bilal Cilik', 'Ustazah Junior, pidato (oration), storytelling), dance and 'Digital Hero'.

The KEMAS Tabika Hari Potensi was first implemented under the Sixth Malaysia Plan (MP6), beginning in 1991, and followed in 1997, 2002 and 2004. Hari Potensi is a Tabika co-curriculur activity held annually, involving three levels – district/parliamentary, state and national.
