PASIR PUTEH, The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Kelantan’s agricultural sector contracted by 0.5 per cent, recording RM5.61 billion last year, compared to RM5.64 billion in 2022.

Kelantan Department of Statistics director Abang Saifulhadi Abang Ibrahim said that the contraction was due to a decline in the forestry and logging subsector.

He said that Kelantan recorded an overall GDP increase of 2.6 per cent, with RM27.6 billion last year, compared to RM26.9 billion in 2022. However, two sectors saw contractions: agriculture (0.5 per cent) and manufacturing (2.6 per cent).

“This makes the agricultural sector the second-largest contributor to Kelantan’s GDP, while the services sector remains the main contributor at RM19.8 billion.

“The other three sectors contributing to Kelantan’s socio-economy are manufacturing at RM1.27 billion, construction at RM0.5 billion, and mining and quarrying at RM0.4 billion,” he said after a field session for the state-level 2024 Agricultural Census at Kebun Betik Callina Selis
ing here, today.

Commenting on the 2024 Agricultural Census, which began on July 7, Abang Saifulhadi said that as of Oct 1 this year, 82,867 (94.6 per cent) of the total 87,621 households in Kelantan had been surveyed, while 280 out of 420 business establishments had been visited.

He added that the census aimed to collect data on agricultural activities, which would serve as the basis for projections in preparing indicators for the agricultural sector and national food security.
