KOTA BHARU, The Kelantan branch of the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) is responsible for ensuring that the water supply quality in all Orang Asli settlements, especially in Kampung Kuala Lah, Gua Musang, is guaranteed for residents' everyday use. In a statement, JAKOA corporate communications unit said that scheduled maintenance had been carried out so that residents can live their daily lives comfortably. "The contractor appointed for the maintenance work for the water treatment system in the Kuala Lah Orang Asli settlement has been working on the site as usual and will ensure that the water supply is always sufficient,' according to the statement today. "The Kelantan JAKOA found that residents have made complaints to get help from the Kelantan state government to obtain a clean source of water in Kampung Kuala Lah." The Kuala Lah Orang Asli Village Development and Safety Committee (JPKKOA) chairman Ayob Daun said the water in the Kuala Lah Orang Asli village turns cloudy every time it rai ns heavily and its flow will decrease because the drains are blocked due to sand entering. Yesterday, the media reported that a total of 400 Orang Asli residents from Kampung Kuala Lah appealed for a supply of clean water because they had to rely on the water catchment slopes or hills located about 20 kilometres away in the Gunung Stong.
