Kampong Phluk: The Inland Ocean Festival hosted by Siem Reap's Kampong Phluk commune in Prasat Bakong district indicates an inseparable linkage between sustainable tourism and the protection of the environment in the region, particularly the Tonle Sap Lake of rich biodiversity and its green landscape. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak emphasised the main objective when joining the event organised from June 14 to 15 by local and provincial administrations in cooperation with the NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation with support from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, and the Cambodia Tourism Association. With clean resorts and good services, Kampong Phluk commune will continue to be a tourism hotspot, especially from May to October, when the water in the Tonle Sap Lake increases, bringing the green flooded forest back to life, he added. The Minister thanked all the local and provincial authorities, concerned government bodies, and partners for continuing to o rganise the meaningful event that also aims to appreciate the Tonle Sap Lake for its benefits to the locals as well as their livelihoods. Deputy Provincial Governor of Siem Reap Mr. Dy Rado echoed the Minister's insights, adding that the Inland Ocean Festival was also organised in conjunction with the environmental cleanup and plastic collection campaign. Third of its kind, the festival will further educate community members about the environmental impact and how to properly dispose of and separate garbage to ensure that the commune has a clean and green environment to attract more national and international visitors.
