KUALA LUMPUR, Members of the public are invited to attend the ‘Festival Merakyatkan Seni Warisan Akar Umbi’, Laman Santai Malaysia Madani 2023 at Laman Beringin, Istana Budaya on Nov 4 and 5, starting from 10 am to 11 pm.
Istana Budaya director-general Zubaidah Mukhtar said her department was always open and committed towards unifying the community down to the grassroots regardless of race, especially in empowering heritage art and culture so that it can be preserved especially through the Festival Laman Santai Malaysia Madani 2023.
"For the first time, this festival is the biggest Laman Santai event of the year where various activities and programmes are lined up such as exhibitions, sales, demonstrations, food trucks and main performances by local artistes.
"This festival has a relaxed and open concept while serving various cultural and heritage events such as heritage food, Borneo music workshops, silat and make-up demonstrations, ‘Jom Belajar Seni Budaya’ (Let's Learn Cultural Arts), Barongan performances, ‘Kuda Kepang’, Traditional Fashion Shows and Karaoke," she said in a statement, today.
Zubaidah said that a group of artistic children from Borneo such as Tuku' Kame', Alun Menoa (Wanita Sape) and Pioneer Traditional Orchestra of Sarawak Youth (POTRES) were also invited to highlight music and performances from Sarawak in addition to performances by popular artistes such as Datuk Hattan, Suki Low, Khai Bahar, Roy Kapilla, Rahmad Mega, Rahimah Rahim and Haziq.
Visitors will also enjoy various promotions and opportunities provided by various government departments and agencies, including the National Heritage Department, the National Visual Arts Development Board, the National Academy of Cultural Arts and Heritage, the National Youth and Sports Department, Tourism Malaysia and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Board.
