Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson's Unit interprets tremendous public support for the government's planned giant Funan Techo Canal as an indication of absolute defeat of 'extremist politicians'. H.E. Pen Bona, who is also a minister delegate, posted the insight on his social media platform, referring the extremist politicians to the remaining few convicted, self-exiled members of the court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party. He added that while the mainstream of Cambodians from all walks of life understood the need for the new water transport means to accelerate Cambodia's growth, those extremists manipulated the facts for political gain. The baseless and ill-willed reaction was severely doomed due to their underestimation of the public, particularly those who are living in the reality of Cambodia. More than ever, Cambodian students, intellectuals, civil servants, the armed forces, monks, and the general public, including those living overseas, condemned the politised, irresponsible, and na rrow-minded views of the extremists, making them shamefully isolated. Along with the analysis, H.E. Pen Bona re-explained the importance of the existence of the Funan Techo Canal socio-economically, grounded on a thorough technical feasibility study by the government. He also considered the momentum of public support as a strong national unity and the faith earned by the hard work and clear direction of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
