High School Exam Kicks Off Nationwide

The two-day high school examination for the academic year 2023-2024 began this morning in 230 examination centres throughout the country with the participation of some 137,040 registered Grade 12 students. In Phnom Penh, the official opening of the examination sessions took place at Preah Sisowath High School under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Civil Service and President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC). This year's exam will test seven subject areas in each of the two major categories - science and social science. The science subjects include biology, chemistry, physics, history, Khmer literature, foreign languages, and mathematics, while the social science subjects consist of geography, history, civics, geology and ecology, mathematics, foreign languages, and Khmer literature. The results are expected to be announced on Oct. 30 for Phnom Penh capital and Kandal province, and on Oct. 31 for the other provinces. The exam is a prerequisite for the high school graduates to pursue their studies at the university level. Last year, some 72.98 percent, or 98,460 out of 137,412 high school students who have registered for the upper secondary exams, obtained their baccalaureate. Among the successful students, 1,673 got grade A; 6,964 grade B; 18,303 grade C; 34,246 grade D; and 37,269 grade E. Source: Agence Kampuchea Presse
