The ancient city of Gyeongju located in southeastern South Korea was picked to host the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, the foreign ministry said Thursday. The preparatory committee for the APEC summit held a meeting earlier in the day and selected Gyeongju, about 280 kilometers southeast of Seoul, as the venue for the summit scheduled for next November, the ministry said in a press release. The upcoming APEC summit is to be hosted in South Korea for the first time in 20 years since its previous one held in the southeastern port city of Busan in 2005. During the meeting, the committee also decided to utilize the efforts of the other two candidate cities -- Incheon, west of Seoul, and the southern resort island of Jeju -- by hosting various ministerial and senior official meetings associated with the APEC summit.
