Phnom penh: H.E. Pen Bona, Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, has called on all Cambodians to remain vigilant against the spread of fake news and not allow it to erode the Kingdom’s strong national unity.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, many fake Facebook accounts are currently being created using Khmer names, even though the users behind them are not Cambodian citizens. H.E. Pen Bona highlighted this as a tactic aimed at undermining national unity by pretending to be Khmer through the use of local names and characters.
During a press briefing at 11:00 a.m., he warned the public to be cautious and not to fall for such dangerous tricks. He stressed the importance of maintaining strong unity among Cambodians, both inside and outside the country, to protect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity.
Numerous pieces of fake news related to the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border situation have been circulating widely on social media, posing a risk of escalating tensions. The public is therefore urged to follow only credible official sources for accurate and comprehensive information.
These credible sources include the designated units of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Information, and other relevant institutions. Official messages from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, are also recommended for reliable information.
