FAMA FEST PROGRAMME TO BE EXPANDED NATIONWIDE

The Food, Flower and Fruit Fiesta (FAMA Fest) by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) will be expanded nationwide to allow more consumers to buy agricultural and agro-based products at reasonable prices.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin said it would take the organiser’s capabilities and the specific location’s capacity into consideration before implementation.

He said this year’s FAMA Fest would be held in five states, Perak, Sarawak, Johor, Penang and Terengganu.

“It’s something I feel we can really do and we will coordinate with agencies and departments to make it a success,” he told reporters after officiating the Perak FAMA Fest 2023 at the Perak Rural Transformation Centre here today, with Rural, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Commitee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun and FAMA chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli in attendance.

Chan had said earlier in his speech that his ministry set a sales target of RM5 million for the entire FAMA Fest programme, which involves 300 entrepreneurs.

He said that the programme, which began in 2017, would create a platform for farmers and entrepreneurs to market their products as well as promote and introduce offerings to a wider market.
