SHAH ALAM, Associate Professor Dr Abd Rauf Hassan, a member of the Islamic Education and Tahfiz Committee of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), has been named the state's Tokoh Maulidur Rasul for this year. The award was presented by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during the state-level Maulidur Rasul Celebration at the Dewan Syarahan dan Muzakarah Islam, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here. Abd Rauf, a native of Klang, is honoured for his significant contributions to the development of Islam and the Muslim community, particularly through his expertise in Arabic and the compilation of the Quran using waqaf and ibtida' methodologies. He is also actively involved in various community and association activities, serving on several councils and committees, including the Arabic Subject Curriculum Drafting Panel for the Education Ministry and the Selangor Tahfiz Education Steering Committee. Speaking to reporters after receiving the award, Abd Rauf, who is also the head of the Foreign Language Department at Universiti Putra Malaysia's Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, said that the recognition would motivate him to further contribute his expertise to the development of Quranic knowledge and the Arabic language. 'In conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul celebration, I urge everyone, especially the younger generation, to take the Prophet Muhammad SAW's example as a guide to develop, study, and deepen their knowledge of the Quran, as that is what he left behind for us all,' he said.
