Disabled Trainees At Kimanis Centre Create Jalur Gemilang Replica From Discarded Bottles

LABUAN, At least 47 trainees with disabilities from the Kimanis Papar Training and Rehabilitation Complex for People with Disabilities have crafted a giant replica of the Jalur Gemilang using discarded mineral water bottles. The centre's superintendent, Dk Suhaila Pg Suhaimi, said the 7x18 feet national flag, created with 427 discarded mineral water bottles in conjunction with the National Day on Aug 31, showcases the strength of the human spirit in overcoming challenges. 'The trainees, who are under the care of this centre of excellence for people with disabilities, worked tirelessly over three weeks from Aug 1 to complete the intricate project. 'They were guided and supported by 42 dedicated staff members, who ensured that every participant could contribute meaningfully to the creation of the flag,' she told Bernama today. Dk Suhaila noted that despite their disabilities, the trainees displayed remarkable teamwork, perseverance and pride in their work, completing the project ahead of National Day celeb rations. 'The completed replica stands as a powerful symbol of unity and resilience, echoing the national spirit of Malaysia as the country prepares to commemorate its independence. 'This annual project is more than just an art installation; it is a testament to the capabilities of individuals with disabilities when given the right support and opportunities,' she said. The initiative also aimed to raise awareness about the potential of people with disabilities and to encourage greater inclusion in society.
