DAPUR SARAWAK RESTAURANT INTRODUCES NEW “SIZZLING MI KOLOK” DISH

The pioneer of halal Sarawak food in the Klang Valley - Dapur Sarawak Restaurant is introducing a new dish on its menu, ‘sizzling kolok mi’ with a choice of black pepper or tomato sauce, in early September.

Restaurant manager, Sharifuddin Junaidi, said the dish went through several taste tests before the decision to promote it at three branches located in Putrajaya; Section 7 in Shah Alam; and Jalan Sarikei Off Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur.

“We wish to offer customers a distinctive attraction through the selection of these two sauces for the dish, which is served sizzling on a hot plate.

“It is also to add variety to our existing menu. We hope the ‘sizzling kolok mi’ can satisfy the taste buds of customers while retaining the unique taste of Sarawak food,” he said when interviewed by Bernama recently.

Established more than a decade ago in 2008, Dapur Sarawak was founded by actor Mahmud Ali Basha with the assistance of Sharifuddin, and his wife, Habshah Ali Basha.

It serves more than 20 types of dishes including ‘aruk dabai’ rice, ‘bihun belacan’ and ‘umai’ (shrimp, fish and jellyfish) in addition to 20 types of drinks such as ‘first lady’, ‘rose kalas’ soda and triple layer tea.

Another attractive feature of Dapur Sarawak is its offering of authentic Bumi Kenyalang cakes that use ‘gula apong’ such as ‘penyaram’ and ‘kek lapis’ as well as ‘kuih celorot’, ‘tapau’ and ‘tumpik’, which are only available during the weekend.

Sharifuddin said their food and drinks are priced as low as RM10 and all the raw ingredients are specially flown in from Kuching to preserve the authentic taste and freshness of each dish.

"All our 33 workers and cooks are also from Sarawak, which enables us to retain the original Sarawakian recipes. All the dishes maintain original Sarawak recipes and all the ingredients, such as sambal laksa and mi kolok, are also specially flown in from Kuching to preserve the real taste,” he added.

Sharifuddin said fans of Dapur Sarawak can enjoy dining at their restaurants daily from 10 am to 10 pm, except in Putrajaya which is open from 8 am to 9 pm.
