Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch considers China's support for Cambodia's demining action as indispensable for the country to succeed in the work. H.E. Ly Thuch, who is the First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), shared the remarks when addressing the closing ceremony of the Cambodia-Laos mine clearance training 2024 in Nanjing city, China, on Sept. 27, 2024. China, he said, has been supporting Cambodia in landmine clearing with both financial and technical assistance as well as human resource development in the area since 2016. The senior minister continued that the three-month theoretical and technical training will further ensure the effective demining service of Cambodian trainees to save more lives. Taking the opportunity, H.E. Ly Thuch invited a Chinese delegation to attend the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World that Cambodia will host in November. As the 2024 Chair of the Ottawa Convention, he also invited China to vote in favour of the UN resolution on the implementation of the Ottawa Convention at the 79th UN General Assembly on Oct. 9.
