‘Sankranta’ events, organised in the capital and provincial framework on the occasion of the Khmer Traditional New Year in mid-April, are expected to attract many national and international tourists as well as the local people.

In Phnom Penh capital, Wat Phnom Sankranta is scheduled to be held at Wat Phnom Historical Site from April 13 to 16. Interesting programmes will include New Tevoda welcome ceremony, Buddha statue procession, sand mountain building, Buddha statue bathing ceremony, ancient painting and cultural artifact exhibition, art performances, concerts, and popular games.

In provinces, there will be Battambang and Prey Veng Sankranta 2024 from April 12 to 16, Pursat and Oddar Meanchey Sankranta 2024 from April 13 to 16, and Kampot Sankranta 2024 from April 14 to 16, and so on. The events to be organised in the provincial cities will consist of different programmes ranging from popular games, art performances, concerts and Kun Khmer matches to local products’ fair, food fair, lantern flying and f
irework display.

Even though the famous Angkor Sankranta will not be organised this year, the Siem Reap provincial administration is busy in preparing for the Siem Reap Sankranta as other provinces.

Sankranta events are aimed to celebrate the Khmer New Year and to promote the Cambodian culture, traditions, and customs as well as the capital and provincial potential to both the national and international tourists.

This year, Cambodian people are going to celebrate their traditional New Year, one of the biggest festivals, particularly for family gathering in the country, from April 13 to 16.
