Cambodia’s 5th Military Region Rejects Claims of Territory Cession to Thailand

Phnom penh: The 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces has released a statement dismissing accusations that the demolition of a house at O' Phlok Domrei implies the cession of Cambodian territory to Thailand. The military region insisted that these claims are baseless and misrepresent the contents of Letter No. 002/2025 dated September 22, 2025.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the statement clarified that the responsibility for border demarcation and the placement of boundary markers lies with the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) between Cambodia and Thailand. This mandate has also been reaffirmed during the 1st Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on September 10, 2025. The military region highlighted that Cambodia and Thailand have established legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms for addressing border issues.

The 5th Military Region emphasized the existence of a 1:200,000 scale map, based on the 1904 Convention and the 1907 Treaty, alongside 74 mutually recognized boundary markers. These have been acknowledged and reaffirmed by both nations in the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 2000). Furthermore, the military region reiterated its unwavering commitment to defending Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity while advocating for peaceful resolutions to border disputes grounded in international law.
