Beijing: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on Monday delivered a powerful statement at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women under the theme ‘One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development.’
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in her remarks, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed her honor to participate in the historic 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which she described as a guiding landmark for advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. She also praised the People’s Republic of China for its leadership and commitment to this global initiative.
Samdech highlighted that peace is essential for achieving development goals, emphasizing that no nation can ensure equality or progress without peace. She urged the international community to closely monitor the fragile ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand to restore peace and normalcy.
Reflecting on Cambodia’s progress since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995, Samdech Khuon Sudary reaffirmed its significance as a framework for national development. She stated that women are fundamental to society and the economy in Cambodia.
She pointed out Cambodia’s achievements through a comprehensive approach, including gender parity in education, reduced maternal mortality and domestic violence, and increased female representation in public service, entrepreneurship, and peacekeeping.
Looking forward, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed Cambodia’s willingness to collaborate globally to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment. She concluded with a commitment to building a future of dignity, equality, and opportunity for all women and girls.
The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women gathered heads of state, parliamentary leaders, and development partners to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and to accelerate global commitments toward gender equality, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development.
