Cambodian Military Maintains High Vigilance Amid Stable Border


Phnom penh: Cambodian military forces continue to uphold a high level of vigilance in defence of the nation despite the current stability along the border. ‘From 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. today, the situation along the frontline areas of Military Regions 4 and 5-covering Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey provinces-remains calm and under the firm control of our forces,’ said H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, at a press briefing this afternoon.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the spokesperson emphasized that Cambodian forces remain on full alert and unwavering in their mission to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces are committed to strictly respecting and implementing the ceasefire agreed on July 28, 2025, as well as the 13-point Agreed Minutes adopted at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Aug. 7, 2025. This agreement was observed by Malaysia, the United States, and China.



At the same time, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reiterated Cambodia’s call for Thailand to immediately release the 18 Cambodian soldiers who have been unlawfully detained for 21 days, 8 hours, and 10 minutes as of 4:00 p.m. on Aug. 19.
