Cambodians from all walks of life are more or less getting prepared to start the celebration of the four-day Khmer Traditional New Year on April 13. The Year of Dragon will begin at 22:24 on that day and last for the next three days. The New Year's angel is Mohortorea Devy, the seventh daughter of Kabel Moha Prum. H.E. Im Borin, Advisor of the National Committee for Organising National and International Festivals, told AKP that spiritually, the Khmer New Year angel who will descend to oversee the earth for the whole year 2024 will hold a trishul in her left hand and a ratchet in her right hand. 'The ratchet represents the law, whereas the trisul is a protective weapon for peace and development,' he explained. To welcome the angel, Cambodians will decorate a table of worship elements prescribed by religious instruction throughout the new year days. When it is time for the angel to descend, family will gather at the table they prepared to worship her and pray for happiness and prosperity along with new ye ar resolutions. After that first day, Cambodians usually go to pagodas as well as spend time with their family playing traditional games, having good food, and visiting tourist destinations.
