The 6th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Environment Ministers' Meeting (EMM-6) and related meetings will be held in Phnom Penh from Sept. 10 to 13, 2024. According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Environment made public on Wednesday, Environment Ministers from the six GMS member countries, along with representatives from ministries, institutions, development partners, diplomats, national and international guests, and subnational administrations will review and discuss key strategic documents to strengthen cooperation for the implementation of the GMS' vision in a clean, green, and sustainable manner, to establish a regional community with a bright shared future. As part of implementing environmental protection, sustainable development in line with global trends in adapting to climate change and preventing plastic pollution, the 6th GMS EMM-6 will review and approve two documents namely: (1) Phnom Penh Joint Statement on the Prevention of Plastic Pollution in the GMS, and (2) 2023 Strategic F ramework for Accelerating Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability in the GMS, the source pointed out. On the sidelines of the GMS EMM-6, it added, there will also be exhibition of achievements regarding the effective management of the environment and natural resources, which have been implemented by ministries, development partners, companies, enterprises, associations, and partner organisations.
