Cambodia and Liechtenstein have reached a Framework Agreement on Development Cooperation to further deepen their relations, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia (MFAIC).
The agreement was inked by H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of MFAIC, and visiting H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports of the Principality of Liechtenstein, at their fruitful bilateral talks here on Feb. 29.
During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers recalled their fruitful discussions during their first meeting on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York in September 2023. They emphasised the positive momentum of the flourishing friendship between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Liechtenstein for selecting Cambodia as one of the nine priority countries for bilateral cooperation. Both Ministers were pleased that the two countrie
s have concluded the Framework Agreement on Development Cooperation. This agreement aims to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and deepen development cooperation, with a particular focus on human resources development. Both Ministers shared the belief that this agreement would pave the way for other agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on various sectors of common interests.
The Deputy Prime Minister also welcomed H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler’s intention to establish a representative office of the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) in Cambodia. This office will facilitate the implementation of existing projects in the Kingdom.
Both ministers expressed their commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation in potential areas, particularly, in education and vocational training, which aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s people-centered policy, the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1. They concurred to explore the possibility of establishing Bilateral Consultations between the tw
o Foreign Ministries. Furthermore, they discussed regional and international issues of shared interests and concerns.
H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea and H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to maintaining the good relations and multifaceted cooperation for the mutual benefits of the two peoples.
The visit of H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler from Feb. 29 to 2 Mar. 2024 as the first ministerial visit from Liechtenstein to the Kingdom of Cambodia, marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Cambodia and Liechtenstein.
