AKP Phnom Penh, August 13, 2024 -- For the first time, Cambodia is hosting the 2024 Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council (APPU-EC) Meeting in Siem Reap province to discuss the strengthening of the postal network regionally and globally. Taking place from Aug. 12 to 17, the 2024 APPU-EC Meeting brings together the Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) H.E. Metoki Masahiko and some 280 high-level representatives of pertinent bodies from 24 APPU member countries. Representing Cambodia as the host, the Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications H.E. Chea Vandeth highlighted the importance of the meeting in further strengthening the postal network connection and digitalisation of postal services, particularly among all APPU and UPU members. The efforts, he added, will enhance digital nurseries for e-commerce and environment-friendly postal service operations, as well as necessary capacity building in the sector to adapt to evolving technologies and consumer needs. Cambodia becam e a member of the Universal Postal Union in 1951 and the Asia-Pacific Postal Union in 1997.
