Cambodia Expresses Gratitude for International Support in Ceasefire and Aid Efforts


Phnom penh: The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Nong Sakal, has expressed Cambodia’s sincere gratitude to partner countries and development partners for their role in achieving the ceasefire agreement and for providing timely humanitarian assistance to people affected by recent border clashes.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Nong Sakal conveyed appreciation for the view expressed by Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio of the United States on August 19, acknowledging the U.S. continued monitoring of the border situation between Cambodia and Thailand. He highlighted Cambodia’s appreciation for President Donald Trump’s initiative in realizing the ceasefire agreement and for the United States’ active involvement in the process.



The spokesperson further expressed Cambodia’s gratitude to the European Union for its announcement of a £700,000 (approximately US$816,000) emergency humanitarian contribution to assist those most affected by the recent armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He emphasized the value of this timely assistance from the EU, which is both an important development partner of Cambodia and a strategic partner of ASEAN.



In addition to the EU’s support, Cambodia has received humanitarian assistance from China and Japan to aid people affected by the conflict along the border.
