Phnom Penh: The celebration of the 71st Anniversary of Cambodia's Independence Day was concluded this afternoon after His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, put out the victory flame he lighted since Nov. 9 at the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh. Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King; Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly; Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet; and many other senior officials participated in the ceremony with a crowd of civil servants, armed forces, Phnom Penh residents and students in attendance. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, foreign ambassadors to Cambodia were also present at the annual ceremony, which was broadcast live on local television and radio stations. Cambodia gained full independence from France on Nov. 9, 1953, under the royal leadership of His Majesty the late Ki ng-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh, the father of national independence, territorial integrity, and national unity.
