Phnom penh: The National Standards Council marked Cambodia’s inaugural celebration of World Standards Day under the theme ‘Shared Vision for a Better World: SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.’ Presiding over the ceremony, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and Chairman of the National Standards Council, emphasized the importance of standards in global trade and their role in bolstering Cambodia’s domestic industries and the competitiveness of local products.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia has adopted 1,153 national standards, with 21 new ones approved in September 2025, as reported by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI). Minister Vanndy urged enterprises and industries to implement national and international standards, viewing them not as burdens but as essential for product competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
On October 8, 2025, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) upgraded Cambodia’s membership from ‘Correspondent Member’ to ‘Full Member’ during its 47th General Assembly in Rwanda. H.E. Chan Sopha, Director General of the Institute of Standards of Cambodia, highlighted that this elevation allows Cambodia to participate in ISO’s technical committees and contribute to global standard development.
The event gathered members of the National Standards Council, technical committees, representatives from relevant ministries, private sector, and partners, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to advancing industrial growth through standards.
