The festival, which began today and continues until September 21, serves as a period of spiritual introspection and communal gathering.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the Kan Ben Festival, participants visit local pagodas to present food and other essentials to monks. This practice is rooted in the belief that such offerings provide sustenance to the spirits of the deceased. The festival culminates in Pchum Ben, also known as the "Festival for the Dead," which is among the most important Buddhist celebrations in Cambodia, scheduled for September 22 this year.
