Cambodia Asks U.S. for More Cooperation on Water Resources

Cambodia has asked the U.S. to expand its cooperation in the water resources and meteorology sector, especially in weather forecasting, disaster alarm systems, and human resources training.

The request was made by H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, during a meeting with H.E. Patrick Murphy, U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, in Phnom Penh on Mar. 11.

H.E. Thor Chetha briefed H.E. Patrick Murphy on the ministry’s priorities in water management for agriculture, industry, and daily uses, and on meteorology-related work.

He added that the ministry will continue to build more climate-resilient infrastructure for water resources and meteorology, which are driving forces for economic growth and poverty reduction.

He thanked the U.S. government for its contribution to building and developing Cambodia’s economy, including the water resources so far.

H.E. Patrick Murphy pledged to discuss all the requests by the minister for support and cooperation to contribute to further development of Cam
bodia.
