Phnom penh: A roadmap to strengthen and enhance a deeper cooperation between Cambodia and Morocco has been agreed upon by the top diplomats of Cambodia and Morocco, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, following their virtual meeting on Oct. 21, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Nasser BOURITA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco, signed a Joint Communiqu©. This document serves as a roadmap to advance multi-sectoral cooperation in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Morocco in 2026.
The two Ministers noted with satisfaction the progress of Cambodia-Morocco bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, science and technology, and sub-national partnerships, including sister-city initiatives. They welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation and looked forward to the early conclusion of remaining draft agreements in these areas.
Both Ministers also encouraged regular engagements between sectoral ministries of both countries, particularly in agriculture, tourism, energy, and transport, through reciprocal visits and virtual exchanges to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
In the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to mutual support in regional and international fora, with H.E. Nasser BOURITA reiterating Morocco’s support for Cambodia’s candidature as a member of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2028-2030, and as a member of the Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICS-ICH) for 2026-2030.
In a gesture of strong support for Cambodia’s hosting of next year’s Francophonie Summit, H.E. Nasser BOURITA announced Morocco’s decision to increase the annual scholarship quota from 20 to 30 for Cambodian students pursuing studies in Morocco, particularly in diplomacy and international relations in French. He further affirmed that Morocco will be represented at the Summit at the highest level, underscoring the close and enduring ties between the two countries.
The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues, underscoring that peace, justice, and mutual respect remain essential foundations for global stability and prosperity. H.E. Prak Sokhonn also briefed his counterpart on the developments in finding the peaceful settlement of the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
