Phnom Penh: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Viengthong Siphandone, President of the Supreme People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, at the Peace Palace this afternoon.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, H.E. Ms. Viengthong Siphandone informed the Prime Minister that her visit aimed to strengthen and expand the relationship and cooperation between the supreme courts of the two nations, thereby deepening the bonds of friendship between them.
The two supreme judicial institutions are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Judicial Cooperation tomorrow. This agreement will facilitate the exchange of experiences and information, collaboration in combating transnational crimes such as human trafficking, illegal drug trafficking, and online scams, and continued cooperation in international forums.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his satisfaction with the strong relations between Cambodia and Laos, which were elevated to a 'Comprehensive and Long-term Strategic Partnership' in 2019. He emphasized that the bond of friendship between the two countries is a legacy from previous generations of leaders and pledged that the Royal Government of Cambodia will continue to deepen this relationship.
The Prime Minister highlighted the steady progress in cooperation across various sectors, including national defence, security, energy, and trade. He also appreciated the progress in cooperation between the Supreme Courts, noting that this partnership will significantly contribute to law enforcement efforts against cross-border crimes, such as cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the judicial institutions of both countries to strengthen and broaden their cooperation and relations at all levels.
