Cambodia will open another new page of its history as the host of the ASEAN Para Games 2023 and expected to break medal record at the games.

The optimism was highlighted by H.E. Yi Veasna, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC), and Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC).

Cambodia has prepared for seven years to host both the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games with clear strategic plans, he affirmed.

Toward the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3 to 9, Cambodia will work hard as the host especially to organise stunning events for the opening-closing ceremonies as the country did for the 32nd SEA Games.

Cambodia aims to bag 56 medals — 14 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze — at the games.

The country earned 28 medals — 7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze — at the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia.

Cambodian para athletes Ms. Vith Chantha and Mr. Van Von who won two gold medals in 4.29 metres long jumping and in women’s T44/64 400-metre running, and a gold medal in 100 metres (4V4) relay wheelchair racing, respectively at the 11th ASEAN Para Games were committed to grab more gold medals for the nation, he added.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, President of CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC, stressed that Cambodia will organise the games in full compliance with all necessary requirements to show to the world its complete peace and development.

The host country will also offer free tickets for all spectators, free accommodation and food for sports delegates and free broadcasting rights for media partners, pointed out the CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC president.

H.E. Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federation of Cambodia (UYFC) and Vice President of Board of Directors of NPCC, said hosting the games is another means to allow Cambodian para athletes to demonstrate their capability in addition to supporting policies and interventions in place to integrate them socially.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen encouraged Cambodian para athletes to work hard and win medals as well as to preserve the honour and dignity of the nation as the host country.

More than 2,600 sports delegates and athletes including some 1,400 athletes from 11 participating countries will join the games to take place at Morodok Techo National Stadium, National Olympic Stadium and other courts in Phnom Penh capital.
