KUALA LUMPUR, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) let slip their lead twice en route to being held to a 2-2 draw by Shanghai Port FC in the opening match of their maiden Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite (ACLE) 2024/25 campaign in China today.

The Southern Tigers, led by coach Hector Bidoglio, went ahead in first-half added time through Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi’s goal at the Pudong Football Stadium.

However, the home team drew level just three minutes after the break through Gustavo Henrique da Silva Sousa.

Arif Aiman then restored their lead with a second goal in the 56th minute but a goalmouth melee in the 72nd minute saw Willian Popp pop up to equalise for Shanghai Port FC again.

JDT will entertain Shanghai Shenhua FC at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri next on Oct 1.
