Some 2,700 athletes throughout Cambodia are attending the 2024 National Primary School Games in Phnom Penh. The event taking place from Mar. 30 to April 8 was themed "Children are Nursery for Sports Development". H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, who presided over the games' official opening ceremony on Mar. 31, emphasised that the tournament aims to inspire physical education and sport activities in schools. It encourages children to play sports, sharpens the new generation's capacity on international stages, and promotes the development of Cambodia's sports sector. There are 12 kinds of sports with 65 disciplines hosted by the 2024 National Primary School Games. They are volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, athletics, WT Taekwondo, ITF Taekwondo, table tennis, boules and petanque, Kun Lbokator, swimming, and fencing, according to Mr. Huot Sengtry, Director of Sports Event Management and Organisation Department.
