18 Cambodian Soldiers Under Thai Custody Are Safe and in Good Health, Confirms ICRC


Phnom penh: H.E. Lt. Gen. Rath Dararoth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence and Chairman of the Ministry’s Command Post Information (CPI), received a courtesy call and held working discussions with a Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by its Head of the Regional Delegation Mr. Jurg Montani. During the meeting, Mr. Jurg Montani shared information regarding the third visit to the 18 soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces who had been captured by the Thai side since July 29, 2025, after the ceasefire agreement had taken effect.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this third visit conducted by the ICRC confirmed that all 18 Cambodian soldiers currently under the captivity of the Thai Military are safe and in good health. Mr. Jurg Montani also stated that he had delivered the second batch of family messages from the 18 detained soldiers to be forwarded to their families through the Cambodian Red Cross.



It must also be underscored that the Royal Government of Cambodia has been and will continue to make efforts, using all available mechanisms for the Thai military to release and return the 18 soldiers as quickly and safely as possible. ‘The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence, and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces will never abandon any of our troops under any circumstances,’ reaffirmed the Ministry.
